J. Alan Fagan founded The Mattox Group, a tax and financial advisory practice based in Monterey, California, in 2007. Over the past nineteen years he has worked with thousands of individuals and small-business owners across the Central Coast and the West Coast, with deep expertise in tax strategy, IRS representation (NTPI Fellow), and Social Security claiming analysis (RSSA). His clients include professional services firms, general contractors and building-trades companies, and mid-sized nonprofits — businesses where proactive financial guidance translates into preserved capital and steadier long-term growth.

J. arrived at the Presidio of Monterey in 2001 as a U.S. Army Arabic linguist trained at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, and transitioned to civilian tax practice after his service. Beyond the firm, he serves on the boards of the Ventana Wildlife Society and AMP Public Media, has chaired the Defense Language Institute Foundation and the Rotary Club of Monterey as Board Treasurer, and is active in the Monterey Masonic Lodge and American Legion Riders Chapter 31. He lives in Monterey with his wife Elisabeth and their two children.
